أعلنت هيئة الطرق والمواصلات وعلى هامش مشاركتها في معرض جيتكس 2018، الذي انطلقت فعالياته في 14 واستمرت حتى 18 من شهر أكتوبر 2018، عن البدء في تجربة الجيل الجديد لفحص المركبات باستخدام تقنيات مبتكرة ستلعب دورا مهما وحيويا في جعل هذه الخدمة أسرع وأسهل وأدق بالنسبة للهيئة وللمستفيدين من خدماتها على حد سواء.

 

وتفصيلا، قال عبدالله يوسف آل علي، المدير التنفيذي لمؤسسة الترخيص في هيئة الطرق والمواصلات: "نحن نعمل بشكل متواصل لكي تسهم الهيئة بشكل فعّال في تحقيق توجّه الحكومة الرشيدة لجعل دبي أذكى وأسعد مدينة في العالم وذلك من خلال الاستعانة بآخر ما توصلت إليه التقنيات الحديثة الفائقة التطوّر وخاصة تقنيات وأنظمة الذكاء الاصطناعي.

 

وأضاف آل علي: "في عصر التكنولوجيا وثورة المعلومات، ما زالت تقنية فحص المركبات تعتمد على مراحل الفحص التقليدية والعنصر البشري بشكل كامل، وهذا ما دفع بهيئة الطرق والمواصلات إلى إحداث قفزة نوعية نحو المستقبل وذلك من خلال ابتكار جيل جديد من الحلول والمبادرات المتقدّمة لتقديم عمليات الفحص الفني في إمارة دبي بجودة ودقة عاليتين بهدف الوصول لأعلى مستوى من التميز واسعاد الناس ورضاهم."

وأوضح أن الهيئة ممثلة بمؤسسة الترخيص تعكف على تصميم حلول فعّالة من خلال جيل جديد في الفحص الفني للمركبات باستخدام أحدث تقنيات التكنولوجيا الحديثة والذكاء الاصطناعي والمبتكرة خصيصا من قبل الهيئة لهذا المجال والتي ترتكز على ثلاثة محاور هي: روبوت فحص المركبات الذكي (Smart Inspection Robot) ذاتي الحركة بحيث يقوم بعدد من الخطوات ومنها تصوير رقم لوحة المركبة ومن ثم يتحرك تحت المركبة المُراد فحصها ويقوم بتصوير وكشف وارسل البيانات بشكل فوري إلى غرفة تحكم  في مركز الفحص الفني وتسجيل أي أعطال أو ملاحظات، وربطها مع نظام الفحص الفني المركزي في الهيئة.

 

"والنظّارة الذكية لفحص المركبات (Smart Vehicle Inspection Glasses) المدعمة بأحدث تكنولوجيا الواقع المعزز (Augmented Reality)، فمع وجود كم هائل من البيانات و المعلومات الواجب توافرها لدى فاحص المركبة اثناء فحصها فسيرتدي الفاحص النظّارة الذكية والتي ستقوم بدورها بتوفر جميع تلك المعلومات والبيانات مباشرة وأثناء عملية الفحص وذلك لزيادة دقة الفحص وتشخيص أعطال المركبة باستخدام الواقع المعزز خاصة في عمليات فحص المركبات ذات التكنولوجيا العالية بالإضافة إلى لتسجيل عمليات الفحص وتسهيل عمليات التدقيق وضمان الحوكمة."

"وجهاز قراءة الأعطال وفحص المركبات على الطريق (Onboard Diagnosis) (OBD) وذلك من خلال الاتصال مع كمبيوتر المركبة لقراءة المعلومات والأعطال، التي يستقبلها الكمبيوتر من المركبة، حيث تهدف هذه المبادرة إلى زيادة الاستفادة من هذه الأجهزة بالدمج مع روبوت فحص المركبات الذكي لتسهيل عمليات الفحص الفني بالإضافة إلى دراسة زيادة استخدام هذه التكنولوجيا لتقديم خدمات مميزة لجميع مالكي المركبات الخفيفة وذلك بهدف تحقيق أعلى معايير الأمن وسلامة المركبات. 

 

وأكّد المدير التنفيذي لمؤسسة الترخيص في هيئة الطرق والمواصلات بأن هذه التقنيات المبتكرة من الجيل الجديد للفحص الفني تتكامل مع تحقيق رؤية الهيئة المتمثلة بـ (تنقل آمن وسهل للجميع) وليصبح الفحص الفني في إمارة دبي في أي وقت وفي أي مكان.“

وقال الشيخ راشد بن حميد: إن إمارة عجمان أصبحت اليوم من المدن التي توظف تقنيات الذكاء الاصطناعي في كافة مجالات الحياة مؤمنةً بأهمية تسخير كل جديد يرنو لتحسين الحياة والارتقاء لمدينة سياحية ينعم سكانها بالعيش الرغيد وتستقطب الزوار والسياح والمستثمرين من كافة أقطاب العالم.

وذلك بحضور عمر لوتاه المدير التنفيذي لقطاع العمليات في مؤسسة المواصلات العامة بعجمان والمديرين التنفيذيين في الدائرة والشيخة نورة النعيمي مدير مركز عجمان X وعدد من المسؤولين في الدوائر الحكومية في عجمان.

مستقبل أفضل

وأفاد خلال تجربته لمشروع الحافلة ذاتية القيادة أن ما نراه اليوم هو مدعاة للفخر، ففي الوقت الذي ما زالت به بعض الدول تطمح لتحقيق المستقبل الأفضل استطاعت دولتنا جلب المستقبل لأبنائها ليكون حاضراً مشرقاً.

موضحاً أن المشروع يمكن حافلات المواصلات العامة باستخدام تقنيات القيادة الذاتية ودمج كل من الذكاء الاصطناعي وإنترنت الأشياء للتحكم الكامل في الحافلة دون أي تدخل بشري بحيث تقدم تجربة مستقبلية فريدة يمكن تشغيلها في المناطق السياحية ومنح السكان والزوار الاستمتاع بتجربة استخدام هذه التقنية التي تعد تقنية جديدة ومميزة، كما وتقدم صورة مشرقة عن إمارة عجمان والتي تسير بخطى واثقة في درب تحقيق المستقبل.

وذكر أن التقنيات المستقبلية أصبحت اليوم منهج حياة وواقعاً يلمس أثره كافة الأفراد في المجتمع، مبيناً أن دائرة البلدية والتخطيط بعجمان حرصت على مشاركة كافة الجهات والدوائر الحكومية في المشاريع التي أطلقتها لتقديم أفضل الخدمات للمتعاملين، حيث يمنح مشروع الحافلة ذاتية القيادة مزايا متعددة لقطاع المواصلات في الإمارة للارتقاء بالخدمات وتطويرها نحو المستقبل.

وتابعت النعيمي أن فريق العمل كثف الجهود لنرى اليوم أول حافلة ذاتية القيادة تسير في شوارع الإمارة، موضحةً أن مركز عجمان X وإدارة الطرق والبنية التحتية في الدائرة والقيادة العامة لشرطة عجمان ومؤسسة المواصلات العامة بعجمان وشركة دي جي وورد عقدوا الاجتماعات المتتالية وتمت عمليات التشغيل التجريبي ومواجهة كافة التحديات لإطلاق المرحلة الأولى للمشروع في منطقة الكورنيش.

Digi Robotics Company Signs MOU as a part of Government Submit Events

MOU to develop a robot for Civil Defence tasks was signed between General Directorate of Dubai Civil Defence and Digi Robotics by Maj.Gen.Expert Rashid Thani ALMatrooshi, Director General of Dubai Civil Defence and Mr. Jamal AL Khatib, CEO of Digi Robotics Company at the sideline of UAE AI and Robotics Award for Good, taking place along with Government Summit in its second edition. The Robot can be used to carryout critical tasks remotely by connecting to firefighting systems in buildings and automatically moving to the source of fire to carry initial extinguishing process till the arrival of fire team, and can also be used in smart awareness campaigns in shopping malls as per the Government’s trend to adopt untraditional systems to protect lives and properties.

The robot was manufactured according to ideas and requirements set by Dubai Civil Defence. It will be subject to 3 month trial period, then evaluated at the end the period to check its technical and operational efficiencies. MOU aims to upgrade Civil Defence workers capabilities by implementing latest technologies, make use of international expertise in this field and activate strategic partnership with other concerned bodies. DCD’s participation in this exhibition comes as a continuation of its previous efforts in the last session, where it displayed RC Camera drone technology used in Civil Defence operations. Rajant and DG World Partnership on display at TOC Asia 2019

Rajant Corporation, the exclusive provider of Kinetic Mesh wireless networks, has entered into a strategic partnership with DG World, a Dubai- based company that develops products and solutions using the most advanced form of AI, automation and self-driving systems. This partnership formalizes a working relationship the two companies have had for two years and aligns with their co-exhibition at TOC Asia 2019 at the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore on April 9th-10th, 2019 (Booth D4).

DGWorld evaluated a range of technologies before choosing Rajant’s secure and resilient industrial wireless network as their backbone solution for their self-driving container terminal trucks. Due to the mission-critical nature of their fleet, specific to seaport operations, DGWorld requires continuous connectivity for never-fail mobility. Rajant’s Kinetic Mesh network is not only mobile but smart, working peer-to-peer to form connections with other nodes as they move in range. The network nodes can hold multiple connections simultaneously over multiple frequencies. Often in port operations, one path can become blocked. DGWorld’s autonomous technologies combine LiDAR and camera data to classify and track objects helping to identify pedestrians, vehicles and roadway details such as lane lines, construction zones, and signage. Their set of long-range sensors track high-speed objects, such as oncoming vehicles, while short-range sensors provide details about moving objects near the vehicle, such as pedestrians and bicycles. Close coordination between hardware and software team evaluations have afforded DG World the ability to pinpoint potential failure modes for all systems and address them throughout the development cycle to ensure a safe, reliable product.

DGWorld Autonomous Driving Technology

In Jebel Ali container port, AI technology from DGWorld and an MTi-Series™ combined GNSS/INS sensor enable trucks to work 24/7 with no driver.

On public roads, the scope for implementing autonomous driving is limited due to safety concerns. Auto-pilot operation is possible on highways, but only with the driver continuously ready to assume control of the vehicle. This is far from full autonomy.

On private roadways, however, the situation is very different, as robotics technology pioneer DGWorld is demonstrating with its retrofit autonomous control system for Internal Terminal Vehicles (ITVs) supplied to DP World, the world’s largest operator of seaports.

A master of multi-sensor georeferencing and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, DGWorld is using a MTi-Series (industrial Motion Tracker) sensor from Xsens to support its 3D Simultaneous Localization And Mapping (3D SLAM) system.

The DGWorld vehicle is a standard-bearer for the cost, efficiency, safety and speed benefits to be gained from Level 5 (SAE Standard J3016) autonomous operation in industrial environments.

Intelligent fusion of vision and motion sensor inputs

A seaport is a dynamic, busy, crowded place which is full of machinery – a potentially hazardous environment for autonomous technology. But the operation of a seaport is guided by a set of established rules and procedures within fixed and known locations. It is this combination of rules-based and dynamic operating conditions which makes autonomous robotic operation well suited to AI technology – a field in which DGWorld has developed deep expertise.

So when DP World identified huge potential to improve operational efficiency by replacing human drivers of ITVs with autonomous technology, it turned to DGWorld to implement its retrofit autonomous control gear in a fleet of ITVs at Jebel Ali in Dubai, the largest port in the Middle East.

With no driver required, the DGWorld Autonomous ITVs:

Perform their transport function more efficiently, eliminating downtime and mistakes;

Enable more efficient usage of the port’s expensive infrastructure, such as cranes and derricks;

Eliminate collisions and other safety incidents attributable to human error on the part of the driver;

Save fuel costs by operating the vehicles at their optimal engine speed and by routing journeys optimally.

In enabling autonomous operation, the DGWorld control box performs three main types of operation:

Environment awareness – radar and LiDAR cameras maintain a continuous 360° view of the relative position and movement of people, machines and other vehicles in the vicinity;

3D SLAM – the ITV knows where it is in the vertical and horizontal planes at all times through a combination of GNSS (satellite positioning) signals, the MTi-Series inertial navigation sensor (INS), and reference to beacons in fixed locations around the Jebel Ali port. The Xsens INS enables the vehicle to navigate by dead reckoning for long periods when the vehicle is unable to acquire a proper GNSS signal – for instance when moving in a narrow corridor between tall stacks of containers;

Real-time decision making – DGWorld’s proprietary AI software algorithms draw on the data from the multi-sensor georeferencing and vision systems to steer the truck around the port, avoid hazards and obstacles, and perform loading and unloading operations.

The outstanding performance of the MTi-Series sensor, many times also referred to as “IMU”, in continuous motion-tracking mode, was a crucial factor in DGWorld’s decision to choose Xsens. Matthias Krause, General Manager of DGWorld, says that navigation by dead reckoning in particular requires very low drift. He says, ‘When developing the DGWorld control box for autonomous ITVs, we tested various IMU products, and the Xsens MTi-Series GNSS/INS (“MTi-G-710”) came out clearly best in its class. On a dedicated 800m test track, the maximum drift found in its position signal was just ±1m.’

The MTi-Series device is a fully integrated accelerometer, gyroscope and magnetometer unit, combined with a GNSS receiver, which performs real-time internal sensor fusion to provide, at high rates, accurate but easy-to-use output data to the DGWorld control box, including information about tilt and vertical acceleration, so that it can track the ITV’s motion up and down ramps as well as on the flat roads around the port.

It also plays its part in the DGWorld technology’s own implementation of sensor fusion. As Matthias Krause says, the sophisticated AI decision-making software can draw on multiple inputs to tell, for instance, when a container has been loaded on the AITV’s flatbed platform. He says, ‘Our system includes direct wireless communications links to port infrastructure such as cranes, plus the radar and LiDAR vision systems. Any one of those on their own might be fallible, but our AI software can combine the signal from the crane operator confirming a container has been loaded, the LiDAR system’s view of a large object behind the cab, and the MTi sensor’s detection of the vertical bump as the container meets the flatbed, to confirm that the loading operation has definitely been completed.’

This implementation of sophisticated autonomous technology within the confined space of the Jebel Ali seaport is a clear indicator of the immediate future of autonomous vehicles: not yet ready for passenger cars in crowded city environments, but, thanks to DGWorld’s AI smarts and the Xsens MTi-Series sensor, ready for deployment today to help industrial facilities operate faster, more efficiently and more safely.

A ground-breaking deployment of autonomous vehicle technology by DP World, the operator of the Jebel Ali container port in Dubai, is to demonstrate the performance and reliability of technology provided by Xsens, the manufacturer of motion-tracking sensors, supporting DGWorld, a manufacturer of artificial intelligence (AI)-based autonomous and robotic vehicle systems.

Global ports operator DP World and DGWorld have announced a contractual agreement providing for the conversion of a fleet of Autonomous Internal Terminal Vehicles (AITVs) at Jebel Ali, the largest port in the Middle East, to fully autonomous operation.

The AITVs will use vehicle control technology from DGWorld. The DGWorld system is utilizing a sensor fusion approach, based on LIDAR and Radar, for object detection and environment awareness, an MTi-Series (industrial Motion Tracker) sensor from Xsens to support their simultaneous localization and mapping (3D SLAM) function, and AI-based real-time decision-making software.

The MTi-Series from Xsens combines a GNSS satellite receiver and an inertial navigation system (INS) in a robust, industrial-grade package. This enables DP World’s AITVs to accurately track their position and navigate the AITVs, even when GNSS satellite signals cannot be received properly. This is an important capability when operating in a container port, since the AITVs will navigate through narrow corridors between tall stacks of containers which block the GNSS signals.

The deployment of fully autonomous ITVs offers numerous benefits to DP World, such as:

Safer operation – the autonomous ITVs’ high-resolution LiDAR sensors and Radars reliably detect and avoid people and objects. Speed measurements from the MTi’s GNSS receiver enable the software system to precisely control the ITV’s speed and the integrated Xsens IMU optimizes continuously the vehicle driving performance.

Higher efficiency – the autonomous ITVs can operate 24/7, and their routing and operation can be optimized through the application of DGWorld´s Fleet Management software.

Matthias Krause, General Manager of DGWorld, said: ‘The DGWorld autonomous control system is specially designed to match the driving dynamics of heavy industrial vehicles such as the container trucks to be converted for Jebel Ali port. The accuracy and output data rate of the Xsens MTi are perfect for this application. The sensor fusion capabilities of the Xsens motion tracker have also been helpful in the development of the DGWorld autonomous technology: whether performing georeferencing via satellite positioning or via INS, the MTi maintains a stable, consistent and high-frequency output.’

AUS and DGWorld to collaborate in areas of 3D printing and robotic solutions

To establish and enhance collaboration in areas of 3D printing and robotic solutions through R&D, American University of Sharjah (AUS) and DGWorld FZ LLC, a Dubai-based technology company dealing with robotics and automation solutions, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) recently. The agreement provides a framework of cooperation and facilitates collaboration between the two organizations in areas of mutual interest in the UAE.

According to the agreement, which was signed by Professor Kevin Mitchell, AUS Chancellor, and Bilal Al-Hattab, CEO of DG World, on behalf of their respective organizations, the two organizations will also sign special projects, host joint workshops, seminars and consultations. DG World will also provide internships to AUS students.

Speaking on the occasion, Chancellor Mitchell said:

“AUS has established a record of success in areas such as digital fabrication and we look forward to exploring mutually beneficial projects that will advance knowledge in fields that rely on robotics and artificial intelligence. The collaboration with DGWorld is an example of the university’s commitment to collaboration with leading industry partners.”

Commenting on the agreement, Al-Hattab said:

“We are honored to have signed this agreement with AUS. DGWorld will provide the knowledge and know-how of robotics, Artificial Intelligence and automation in the field of engineering and undergraduate and graduate academic programs. We are committed to supporting the academic sector as we work towards a brighter future. DGWorld will support AUS by collaborating on R&D projects in order to share and transfer the knowledge of projects and technologies under development."

Such collaborations help the university play an important role as a link between academia and industry and the many ways in which such partnerships can bring mutual benefits to both.
